Frederick Amateur Radio Club (FARC) Minutes for August 20, 2012
Meeting: The club meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President
Jim Ridgley - N3HTA
Introductions: See Attendees
Last Months Minutes: Last months minutes were approved without corrections.
New Licenses: None
Upgrades: None
Treasurer Report: FARC’s checking account balance is $15,963.94, up by
$258.20 from last month. That money came from various sources. Two
outstanding bills totaling $81.80 were paid for club business. Our
annual expenses based on previous years far exceeds our anticipated
income for the coming year, 2013. Our “uninsured non-corporate status is
still a work in progress”. Volunteers are welcome to participate in this
undertaking.
New Member Application(s): Steven Goldberg - W3SFG . He holds an Extra
license. He was voted in as a new member.
Old or Ongoing Business:
- Club Equipment Report – Jeff Fishman - KB3FIO and Mark Whitmore -
AB3KS will coordinate to combine their respective lists. Mark is also
undertaking our corporate status by getting the tax records up to date.
- Club Station Report – Curtis Campbell - KB3WHX, Bill Rheinhardt -
N3TCR, and Jeff Fishman - KB3FIO worked together to replace the mast and
then aligned the vertical antenna. The station is working well and can
be used by any member.
Committee Reports:
- ARES – Shelter Training is required when working in a shelter. It is
not clear that Red Cross back-ground check is still required.
– The September 29, 2012 MS Bike races to Bordeaux, between 12 and 16
operators will be needed during the hours of 6am to 5 pm. Sign-up will
be on-line. Actual bike races will start between 7:30am to 8:00am and
last until about 2:00 pm. Rest stops will be shared by more than one
route. All the rest stops will need to be manned beside seven SAG
vehicles that will cover the various routes. The repeater 146.730MHz is
expected to be used based on the coverage provided over the route. To
participate you have to be a licensed HAM operator. Equipment required
will be any 2M radio, APRS capability is desirable, working from either
a stationary position or from a SAG vehicle, such as with a mobile rig
or HT, portable or vehicle mounted antenna.
- RACES – There is nothing going on this Summer, they are taking a
hiatus. Monthly drills will resume in September.
- SKYWARN – There was nothing on the training schedule over the Summer.
WX4LWX.ORG has a completely revamped web site and is much neater.
Corrections were sent by Jim Ridgley - N3HTA specifically identifying
our club to be in Frederick County, MARYLAND.
Through a group called ARESMAT (ARES Mutual Assistance Team) volunteers
can go from our area to another area is case of emergencies.
New Business:
After some discussion Jeff Fishman - KB3FIO made a motion: “That Curtis
Campbell - KB3WHX puts up a trial balloon, per se, to show us how this
thing (an interactive demonstration web site) can work to familiarize us
with how it can benefit the organization and to make it available to us
for us to look at and to access it to see how it could be benefit the
club and then lets talk about it again in September and see what we
think about it”.
More discussion followed after the motion was seconded. The motion was
carried unanimously by voice vote.
