Howdy, all!
This Sunday we're going to be hosting a combination Jamboree on the Air
(JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) at our house from 1 PM - 4
PM. The purpose of JOTA is to enable scouts to get some exposure to ham
radio, and make contacts with other scouts around the world. There will
be over 400,000 scouts participating over the weekend. I'm not sure what
the turnout will be, but I've been inviting scouts from all over the
county, so we're hoping to get a fair number attending..
Bob (K9CMR) and Jim (WA3FUJ) have most generously volunteered their time
to help me with the event, but we could really use some more folks. All
you really need to do is bring your enthusiasm, but if you have some
equipment of any type you could also bring, that would be wonderful.
I really want to plant a seed about ham radio with the boys so that
we'll have a foundation to build on later with, perhaps, ham radio merit
badge classes or technician classes. I'm sure they are unfamiliar with
the many ways scouting and amateur radio are well-matched, such as in
emergency services support during emergencies. Let's remedy that and get
some new hams!
Can any of you spare some time to help out? You wouldn't have to come
for the entire session, just what you're able to squeeze out of your
busy schedules.
Gratefully,
--David, KB3NAI
