[FARC] Contesting

Ok, I'll try "contesting" as a subject line.

Questions to the group regarding a Ham radio H F  Q S O  p a r t y.

Saturday afternoon on 40 meters I heard the following exhange:

"CQ CQ CQ this is KXXXXX for the Michigan QSO party QRZed."

"KXXXXX this is WYYYYY you are 59 in Ohio."

"WYYYYY this is KXXXXX roger 59 in Ohio.  I have you 109 on the list."

"KXXXXX this is WYYYYY roger I have you as 213 on the list, 73 and good luck."

The question I have regarding this exchange is what do the phrases, "I have you 109 on the list," and "I have you 213 on the list," mean?  I realize that the folks in Michigan running the Q S O  p a r t y might keep a numbered list of all their contacts, but what was the guy in Ohio doing?
