Good Evening,
It got hot in the Pacific Northwest this week. Triple digit
temperatures two days in a row. That was enough for me; luckily the
system switched back to normal on Thursday. Thunderstorms all day
long. Rare for this area. I need to hook my antennas back up before
the nets.
This week I saw two flocks of birds frequenting the flowering
shrubs. Both Yellow and Wilson's Warblers. I saw a male Wilson's early
then a male Yellow later in the day. So the females of last week could
have been from either flock. No hummers around; they may have gotten
annoyed with the ladders and scaffolding in their way. Or their nesting
season is over.
The sun has a number of large sunspots. A few of them are active.
Solar flux is up too. However the system is quiet for the moment. The
auroral oval is weak. There may be less noise tomorrow. In any case I
pulled down both of my antennas and worked on them. The connections to
the feed point had become corroded. I cut off the ends, stripped them,
and tightened them into place. I need to find my RTV. Then I raised
them and ran tests against the Reverse Beacon Network. By 3 PM local
time I was able to hit the East Coast, with other lobes into the
Southeast, the Midwest, the southern plains, as well as a number of
reports from West and Central Canada.
Please join us on (or near):
14050 kHz at 2200z Sunday (3 PM PDT Sunday)
7047 kHz at 0000z Monday (5 PM PDT Sunday)
73,
Kevin. KD5ONS
