Hey Gil,
For WL2K and all data modes, just use Line In and Out to your sound device. You can key the KX3 via the serial port, using DTR or RTS via the USB-Serial adapter. Doing this requires a current-limiting resistor in series on the control line (DTR in my case). I'm using 3.3K for mine, and it keys PTT just fine.
RMS Express allows a transceiver choice of "Elecraft Radios" in the Radio Setup. I've got that choice selected, running in "Digital" mode (Digital USB). There are two serial ports shown, one for control and the other for PTT. I have two virtual ports (COM19, 20) running through LP Bridge, connected to COM3. COM20 is used to key the KX3, and COM19 is used to control the radio (frequency, mainly).
Elecraft sells a cable set specifically for this type of use (KX3-PCKT). The quality is better than average and the cost is only $20.

Subject: [Elecraft] [KX3] and RMS Express, Winlink.
Hello,
I am wondering if I really need a Signalink USB box to use RMS Express...?
Wouldn't just the audio input/output work?
Or, can the USB cable that comes with the KX3 for firmware updates be used?
Any suggestion would be appreciated, thanks,
Gil.
