Ross,
The steps in assembly part 2 should not have any direct effect on the
bargraph, and at this point you should have a fully functioning receiver
on 40 meters.
Go back over your work, particularly the soldering. Read over the
soldering tutorial that came with your K2. If the solder connections do
not look like the renderings for good solder connections, remove the
excess solder and solder it properly.
I recommend using a slightly higher iron temperature than that
indicated in that document to be certain the solder pads are adequately
heated. Watch the solder as it is applied, it should flow out to an
almost invisible edge on both the solder pad and the component lead.
Use the parts placement diagram in the back of the manual to check the
orientation of the active components, particularly the diodes.
You might also try the applicable DC voltage measurements in the DC
Voltage chart.
