What do you mean by "key the rig?"  Both PTT and CW can be sent to the serial 
port by N1MM (CW on DTR, pin 4, PTT on RTS, pin 7), and the K3 can be set to 
take CW and PTT from those lines. To do that, you must change N1MM from always 
on or always off to CW and PTT in its Config window for the radio.

As noted in an earlier email, I use VOX rather than PTT, but that's a choice. 
The rig works both ways.
