[Elecraft] K-3 RIT readout

Ha, ha! Then there's the problem of re-zeroing the RIT/XIT before calling
someone else. I'm much more prone to doing that than forgetting to put my
transmitter on the desired frequency.
It seems that the brief period of early transceivers that offered no
separate adjustment of rcvr and xmtr frequencies before finally adopting an
RIT feature has produced two styles of getting the station tuned to the
right frequencies. The old method is to adjust the rcvr to the desired
transmit frequency, then "zero beat" the xmtr to that frequency. The newer
method was to adjust the rcvr and xmtr to the desired frequency then use RIT
to tune the receiver off frequency as needed.
The disadvantage of putting our separate xmtr on the rcvr frequency was that
it takes a significant amount of time to get it right. We'd tune in a
station we wanted to call on frequency, then tune that station to zero beat
(no tone audible), engage the xmtr VFO and tune it to zero beat (no tone
audible), and, finally, reset the rcvr for a good beat tone from the
station, who by now may have stopped calling CQ or may be working someone
else.
The tap-tap method replaces all that knob twisting with something that is
done in a fraction of a second. That makes "zero beating" the xmtr to the
rcvr frequency as easy as we used to wish it would be while frantically
spinning the xmtr VFO knob!

Good grief! That reminds me of the old Omni V which had no RIT. TenTec used
the same logic and it only lasted through one model number.....The main pain
about this is when you tune off and forget to double tap then call CQ half a
band away. Yes I had separate tx and rx back in the old days but even that
was easier than all this button tapping.
ZUT CW Forever etc. tap tap tap tap! The key, not the buttons!
