Barry,
I believe the K3 comes permanently wired for the Elecraft microphones,
and that means there is a resistor between 5 volts and pin 1 (AF). If
one wants to use a microphone that would object to having that voltage
present on pin 1, a series DC blocking capacitor should be used.
My reasons to support those conclusions are the fact that Lyle said the
K3 mic is wired just like it would be in the K2 with all jumpers wired
straight across, coupled with the fact that the MH2 microphone is again
being offered for use with the K2 and K3 - if it did not require the
resistor, I would expect to see a change in the microphone numbering
designation.
