Point taken, Dave. I agree.
I think you are speaking the general consensus of all the e-mails I've read
on the reflector and received privately.
It is true in this case that a simple screwdriver-type tool will work fine
to adjust these caps. The questions come up in builder's minds because the
slots are very wide, so no standard tools fits tightly. That begs the
obvious question about what to use. I should have answered that question
better in the instructions, once the decision was made not to supply a
special tool.

I haven't built a KX-1, but I've built a K2 and I was IMPRESSED and
GRATIFIED that there was a tuning tool supplied in the kit.
Needed or not, it's such a nice touch that says "We've thought about you.
You may not need this but we don't want you cutting up a mascara brush in
the middle of the night to tune the coils".
My vote would be to add a buck to the kit and include the tool.
My guess is few will need it, but the few that do will be grateful and it
will reinforce the theme that "Elecraft really wants you to be successful
and pleased with the experience".
(Heathkit did it, yes?)
