I did this modification and did not remove it when I installed the
keying modification. I do not believe there were any ill effects.
One thing that you should check is the adjustment of L30, the VCO
control voltage. The voltage should be adjusted so that it does not
exceed 6.0 volts at 4.0 MHz, although the manual says it can be as high
as 7.5v. If you need to change this, check that all the bands remain
above 1.5v. Several of us found that the high voltage here caused a
slight chirp when the keying mod was installed.
