I'll echo Earl's comments, everyone I worked was 599 even if it took 
five tries to get their info.  :-)
I used the free N1MM Logger with programmed memories.  It does allow one 
to log the exchange received.

This subject has been argued repeatedly on the CQ-Contest reflector.  
The general consensus is that RST
serves as a placeholder, prepares the operator to copy the "real" 
information that follows.  I am in agreement
with that opinion.  The report may be meaningless, but does serve a 
purpose for the receiving station.
