[Elecraft] K2 Initial testing

Hi all,

Today I finally got hold of the two missing push button switches and went along 
building my K2. When turning on for the very first time, I heard the relays clicking. 
Then I noticed that the LCD does not display all letters. After 10 seconds, the display 
does not show the default frequency, as described in the manual. 

Switching off and on again, the display only shows the letters "ELE" and that's it! You 
can see the background lighting flash at a constant pace, say two times per second. I 
have checked and re-checked all resistance measurements for the control board, the 
front panel and the RF-board. I also checked the soldering of the LCD and U1 (LCD 
driver). When resoldering the LCD, I noticed that all segments of the LCD light up. 
I checked also the voltage regulators on the control board: they give 8,0 V and 4,9 V. 
The 4.9 V goes up and down from 4.92 to 4.98 V but every two seconds or so, the 
voltage drops for a moment to 4.85 V. The last thing I checked was the 4 MHz 
oscillator of the MCU on the control board: everything was soldered just fine. 

When the K2 is switched on after being off for some time, the display sometimes 
gives "ELEC".

In the mail reflector I cannot find any similar problem so I am very puzzled. Anybody 
got any ideas??
