[Elecraft] External Speakers

Hi

Be careful when considering amplified speakers made for computers and =
audio devices like CD players. Many of these cheap speakers do not have =
the proper RF bypassing and/or shielding. I have found many of them will =
hum or oscillate when a transmitter is keyed close by.=20

Most of the small un-amplified bookshelf speakers sold today are not =
very efficient and I have found the volume to be low when driving them =
with the K2. I have not found anything better than the K2 speaker in the =
un-amplified type. It should not be too difficult to design a amp in the =
3 to 10 watt range to use with one of the small 4 inch bookshelf =
speakers sold at RS. The design could have a bandpass tailored for =
communications use say 300 to 2000 Hz.

I experimented a year of so ago with mounting either an oval speaker or =
2 K2 speakers to the front of an EC2 box. There should be enough room to =
mount 2 K2 speakers a 5 watt amp and the MFJ 4125 25 amp power supply in =
the EC2 box. I just looked at the possibility and it looked like it =
would work but I never actually built it. Too many other projects I =
guess. BTW I never found an oval speaker that would fit in the front. =
