[Elecraft] External Speakers

Hi all, a good stereo speaker , will probably be a bad speaker for the K2.
To have good low freq response, a speaker must move air, alot of air.
With a Big cone, or little cone with alot of excursion, but in either case
if it's got great LF response it will usually not be very efficient in the
midrange 500-3k . I've been setting up a speaker for the top half of the
EC2/100AT. With not much height available...i chose to use two small
elliptical speakers. I need two because, I haven't found a small enough
speaker with adequate audio output, or sensitivity. I will probably have to
add an amp stage to make up for the large difference in sensitivity. The
spec on the K2 speaker is if i guessed the right one is SPL (dB): 95 ...
the guys did a great job picking a very sensitive speaker. That is why many
of the speakers we try as externals do not have enough volume.
RatShack has a dual, portable battery powered speaker system. Looks to be
2.5" drivers.. which I'll bet has good LF, but since it has a built in amp
, probably will be fine for voice... but I'm waitin for a sale,,,,

>What are you doing for an external speaker? I picked up some "stereo
>speakers" at radio shack (very nice looking and very compact and matches
>the K2 very well, and were on sale - cheap!) and I am not all that happy
>with them. Yes, they are 8 ohm speakers.
