Just my 2 cents worth:

One of the things I like about the K2 is that it is (to me) the GUFR =
(Great
UnFinished Radio).  How Eric and Wayne choose to run their business is =
not
for me to criticise or to advise - they are the ones with a demanding, =
but
small market which they have to keep on side somehow, because in many
businesses, much of the profit comes from repeat business.  But this I =
do
know, that for the Elecraft goodies to keep coming, the business just =
has to
be profitable.  Not only does the business have to be profitable, but it =
has
to generate a positive cash flow.  So I am not going to worry unduly at =
what
S/N a cut-off maybe applied.  If I want the mod, I pay for the mod.

When I eventually finish my K2, I believe that I will end up with a =
superior
set that will have cost me less than a comparably specified Kenyaecom, =
and I
will have had the pleasure and satisfaction of having of assembled it
myself, will have learned a lot about aligning radios, will have learned =
a
bit about winding toroids, and will be able to service the rig myself.  =
For
my money, I am getting a lot more than just a radio kit - I am getting
experience, learning, camaraderie and the sort of intense satisfaction =
that
I do not think that I have experienced since I was young - are you are =
with
me?

I will end with a fervent prayer to my God that the bean-counters at
Elecraft are doing a superior job of helping keep the firm in existence.

I think that they said the mod is available and have not told anyone it =
was
necessary. Which in my opinion is the most respectable business =
practice. I
think that it is up to each individual to decide whether they think =
their
operating conditions require the mod. As far as providing the mod to ppl =
who
have already purchased the radio.....all things improve......that is the
great thing about Elecraft products. They are an ever evolving product =
and
if we want the mods we get them just like the options.
