I think that they said the mod is available and have not told anyone it was necessary. Which in my opinion is the most respectable business practice. I think that it is up to each individual to decide whether they think their operating conditions require the mod. As far as providing the mod to ppl who have already purchased the radio.....all things improve......that is the great thing about Elecraft products. They are an ever evolving product and if we want the mods we get them just like the options.
