Hi all,
While I think "test equipment" is the right answer, all of these that
Don has suggested are not all that useful until you have a rig.

I'd like to suggest the AADE (www.aade.com) LC meter. It'll help when
building almost anything else. I have to admit, I've not built one,
but it comes with an unconditional guarantee.

And if you're willing to take a little more of a chance, check out the
kits from the American QRP Club, www.amqrp.org/kits/kits.html.
They'd be more challenging, but they're interesting pieces of gear.

   Hi

I have answered this question several times before and I still
think it is valid. The OHR WM-2 QRP watt meter is a great little
kit for about $90. You get to solder, do mechanical assembly and
even wind a toroid. When finished you have a useful piece of test
equipment that makes alignment of your K2 easier. Also any of the
Elecraft mini kits are good to start with. I would build the DL1
dummy load first followed by the N-gen noise generator and then the
XG1 low level signal generator and receiver calibrator. You can
build all three for a little over $100 and it should not require
more than a couple of hours each to build and test them. If you
check back through the archives of this reflector you will find
good suggestions on tools and equipment you may want to get to help
   with the building.

     Hello,

I just passed the Technician exam today, but my long term goal is to at
least make it to General class so I can operate on HF. I'm also very
interested in kit building, but I don't want to start out with something
as elaborate as an Elecraft kit. Can somone provide me with the names of
some good starter kits? They don't have to be specific to Amateur Radio.
I just want to gain some experience with kit building, before tackling
     something like a K2.

     Thanks in advance.
