It rarely works out that way these days, George.  AGC derived S-meters 
were fine in the old days of AM, but now there's a lot to be said for 
them to be audio driven for CW and SSB, particularly when using an LED.

I have just been listening to WA2UGT/P in Puerto Rico on 5405.5kHz on my 
K2. Although I would give him S8, he was barely budging the S-meter 
despite it being set up accurately according to the manual.

Anyone else have any thoughts on that?
