[Elecraft] KX1 S Meter

Can any one please give me the S Meter set up procedure in simple words =
of one syllable? I have studied Page 65 of the book for hours but still =
can't make sense of it.
I have my own system, Very loud =3D S9,  Almost inaudable =3D S3, In =
between =3D S5......... But when I show the rig to people they expect to =
see flashing bars!
