[Elecraft] OT - Soldering Crystal Cans

Here's another way that worked for me:
I do it like Don, soldering clipped-off component leads to the PC board
after the xtals are mounted. I leave extra length on both ends, above
and below the board. I then trim the leads evenly above the board so
that each one is the same length (half-way up, in the case of the row of
xtals on the right side of the RF board). I then position them to the
right (or left) side of the can, bent slightly forward, beyond the edge
of the can. At this point, I form the top third of the wire so that it
will lie flat against the edge of the can when I pull it back into
position. I then nudge each wire left (or right) so that it contacts the
narrow edge of the can. There is enough friction from the "springiness"
to hold it in place, and soldering is very easy. The finished results
look very clean. I also followed a similar procedure for the xtals that
required grounding on type.
Works great; but as always, ymmv...

I prefer to solder the leads on after the crystal is mounted (it is the
quickest and easiest for me). 73,
