Ooops I reread the post....was thinking you found a loose wire in the
shell not at the strain relief.....very common problem with any
microphone cable....that's what I always do is cut it back a bit so you
can feed clean cable thru the spring and rewire everything...don't
forget good strain relief work...if need be use a plastic tie-wrap
inside the housing to make sure you can't pull it out.

Subject: [Elecraft] Microphone cable problem
Hi folks,
I use a original Heil Elecraft mike on my K2 and it sounds fine.
Since yesterday I had trouble keying the K2 with the pushbutton on the
mike.
So dissasembled it and put a little bit of Deoxit on the switch contacts
but
it didn't help.
As it turns out I have a open wire in the mic cable (the black one) and
started to slice the cable a few inches seen from the mike in the
direction
of the spiral.
But still didn't find the spot where it is not OK.
Just wondering if I've got myself a first ?
Oh well,
