Eric,
My experience with cords with a stabilizing mechanism on the end is that the
cable break will occur very near the stabilizer - in this case at the point
where the cable exits the spiral. The spiral helps decrease the flexing,
but with enough flexing, the cable eventully will break.
So cut a bit more off and I think you will find the problem area.

| Hi folks,
|
| I use a original Heil Elecraft mike on my K2 and it sounds fine.
|
| Since yesterday I had trouble keying the K2 with the pushbutton on the
mike.
|
| So dissasembled it and put a little bit of Deoxit on the switch contacts
but
| it didn't help.
|
| As it turns out I have a open wire in the mic cable (the black one) and
| started to slice the cable a few inches seen from the mike in the
direction
| of the spiral.
|
| But still didn't find the spot where it is not OK.
|
| Just wondering if I've got myself a first ?
