This should definitely not be necessary. I run my K2's AF gain control at about
9 or 10 o'clock most of the time. You could have the AGC threshold set too
high--try turning AGC off to see if levels come up significantly (hold AGC +
PRE/ATTN). You might also have the BFOs not set correctly, or an incorrect
component value in the signal path, etc. Please check with Gary or Scott for
other suggestions on what to look for.
