I don't use TUNE & the two reasons for power variation don't appear to
apply (key
down for one dah doesn't change how warm things are & they're already warm &
they certainly aren't cooling down appreciably between characters). No supply
voltage variation, no band changes or anything else is going on at the time.
If this mod helps, great. Reading the description, it shouldn't.

Depending on the band, I need from 30 to 50 watts drive & that's where the
power level
control is set before transmitting. Sometimes I thought I've seen what
appeared to
be overshoot as the rig ramps itself up (like one light bulb on power level
meter), but
other than that the setting is quite repeatable & then varies from there.
