I did it, and it helps quite a bit.

Of course, if you happen to have an amp that needs 50 watts drive, you 
need to be careful when you go from 100 watts barefoot to high power.  I 
always turn the power control down to 50 watts and send a few dashes 
into the dummy load before turning on the amp, to let the power settle 
down.  Otherwise I might notice that an Alpha 86 is capable of 2200 
watts output.
