[Elecraft] elecraft technnology

Yeah, what Gary said. All of it. I'm another blind ham who's very
excited about how Elecraft has really gone out if its (their?) way to
make their rigs usable by blind operators. Response from other
manufacturers of ham gear has ranged from downright negative (Yaesu,
for instance) to lukewarm...Ten-Tec made the right sort of noises, t
least some of their people did, but that's *all* they did. And
Kenwood's actually been pretty good to us, whether by accident or
design I don't know. But Elecraft has far and away done the most to
this point to making their rigs more usable by blind operators. The
KRC2 is *very* exciting to me, as I suspect it will be to a lot of
people...the ones, that is, who aren't happy because it doesn't talk
instead of sending cw. (Some people you'll just never
please...sigh...)...anyway, those guys aren't very excited I guess,
but who cares? C'mon. Who else gives as much non-visual access to
anything you would care to want? As good as Kenwood is, you sure don't
get everything in a nonvisual form from them. Seems to me that
Elecraft has from the beginning made an effort on our behalf, whether
intended or not. Starting with the builders for hire page. Sure, y'all
could've said, "Listen. This is a kit. The idea behind kits is to
build them. If you can't build the kit, maybe you shouldn't have it,
or...if you really want it, I'm sure you can find someone to build it,
but that's not our lookout, is it?" I expect no one would've blamed
you if you had. But you didn't. And it's another thing that makes
Elecraft fantastic. Heck. The things that make Elecraft fantastic are
many of the things that make ham radio in general fantastic. But I
suppose we all already know that, don't we?

So, like I was saying. ... Yeah, what Gary said. Keep up the great
work, guys, and thanks. I've been a ham now for 16 years--more than
half my life--and I've never been sorry, never looked back, and never
have I been anything but proud to be a ham--and to be associated with
fine folks like these.
