Keeping the rig in your coat pocket will keep the batteries perking along
nicely too since the batteries fit inside the case. 

If you have a small flat surface (a writing pad or clip-board) that you can
set the rig on to operate it, you will find the little built-in "logging
lamp" will illuminate the writing surface very nicely for you to take notes
in the dark. 

Copying "in your head" will save on battery life though <G>.

The new KX1 seems like the perfect choice for winter. The LED display will
work just fine in the cold, and it is small enough to operate while in a
sleeping bag.  This will keep the batteries warm and the operator happy.
Only problem I see is taking notes. I guess I better learn to copy code in
my head.
