George,
This sounds great ... thank you very much for your help. I have gotten
so many replies... I should have further clarified my question by
stating that I ordered the ATU with my kit so your solution would serve
well. To all the list members who have sent me information, thank you
very much. To one fellow, yes, we weighed our ruck sacks and they all
weighed about the same, one fellow in our group who is about 6'7" tall
and very strong, carries a bit more. We average 10 to 12 mi per day ...
establish base camp and explore out from there. We do not use horses
though there are times when I wish we had them. I will be leaving in the
morning for a three day visit to Montana and we will be planning our
winter schedule for camping. This year we plan to hike into an area in
north western Montana and use snow shoes on trails that would be
impossible to sog thru on foot with out snowshoes. We tried that one two
years ago and it just about wiped us out. Having the K2 and
communications capabilities will greatly improve the fun. It will be
interesting to see how the K2 fares under those conditions. As for the
KX1, I almost bought that one first but wanted RS232 capabilities in my
unit, so the K2 was the most logical choice. We are thinking about
pulling our group finances together and buying some KX1's for our
activities.. .... sometime next year a trip to Alaska is being planned
... I hear the fly fishing there is beyond belief ....
Thank you guys, your expertise is deeply appreciated.
