Michael,

You don't need DSP to use any sound card data modes. It is completely 
redundant, since the decoding computer doesn't need additional help to 
decode the received signal. In fact my understanding is that the DSP unit 
disables itself when the K2 is in "RTTY" mode (I don't actually have one, 
so I can't verify this.)

I haven't used HRD, but I can recommend that you try MixW 
(http://www.mixw.net) with your new KIO option. It is an amazing program 
that covers just about every data mode it's possible to work with a sound 
card, plus CW, and has a competent logger that makes it worth using even 
when you work SSB. It isn't freeware, but considering what most hams are 
prepared to spend on gear, I can't see what the objection is to paying 50 
bucks for a very full featured, professionally written piece of software. 
It seems also to have a lot of the features like rotor control, DX cluster 
support, that Greg AB7R mentioned in his reply to your posting.
