Hi folks,
I am at the 40-Meter TX Alignment of my K2 (3716) and have done the
adjusting of the 40M band-pass filter inductors. No smoke, no fire, good
readings.
Further in that section it tells me that "current drain at 5 watts is
typically 1.3 to 1.6 amps". For 10 watts, current drain should be 1.8 to
2.0 amps. It goes on to say that if the current reading is "much higher
than this" I may have a problem. Current drain during my test is:
1.72A @ 5 Watts (12.7vdc)
2.38A @ 10 Watts (12.5vdc)
Both current readings are higher than specified. My question is how MUCH
higher is "MUCH higher"? Are these current drain numbers in line at this
point, even though both are slightly high?
I read the footnote (10) stating that CW current drain may be "higher than
expected". Again how much higher is acceptable? Am I splitting hairs here?
I feel like I did when I was the nervous parent of a new born, and, over the
phone, the doctor asked "does he have a temperature". I said "Hell, I hope
so!"
Of course, I didn't have you guys to ask back then either!
