Brian,

Although I completely agree with those who have said "build the vanilla rig
first", I would like to add that removing XTALS is very difficult.

If any of the modifications you wish to do require removing XTALS then put
the right ones in during constructions.

I do not believe that there is any case where this will not function
correctly with the remainder of the rig in vanilla form.  You just won't
reap the full benefit until the remainder of the changes have been
completed.

Just my opinion.
