Appologies for being off-topic but if I could tap in to your brains for
just a sec: I found a neat little generator by Yamaha, 1000 watt
"inverter" generator. It's on sale for about $650.00. PWM sine wave; very
clean. Honda has a very similar product that's a little more expensive.

I'd like to set this up as a "UPS" system where I can add a battery or two
in to the chain between the current source ("generator") and the inverter.
I emailed southwestfastener.com support and they say that there is no
facility built in to the unit to do this.
Is this a reasonable mod for a unit like this? Or is this something that
I should not attempt? I'm looking for some wisdom.
The end product envisioned is a flexible 12vdc and 120vac supply that's
small and reasonably easy to deploy in the field that could -- if called
upon -- supply a more than a thousand watts (via the external batteries
when the demand was there) but would generally be supplying a lot less
than that. My current 4kw Generac generator is simply too much of an
overkill (unless I want to use the AC in the trailer), and is way too
noisy and is physically a bear to load and unload. I also really like the
idea of the inverter -- nice clean power.
Thanks for your time and 73,
