[Elecraft] RS boom mic & vox

Greetings, all. I picked up a couple of the RS boom mics discussed here a
few weeks back, and finally got around to hooking it up the other night.
Problem is, the VOX won't release when I'm done talking no matter the SPCH
setting. SSBA is at 2, SSBC at 2-1. Every now & then there'll be brief bit
of background noise pop back up in the headset, but then the VOX kicks
back in. The audio is loud & seems clear enough. This is my only mic
capable of VOX. PTT with my key paddle as the switch works OK.

I checked the plug wiring & it seems OK. I have it wired as such:
pin 1 - 1 uF tantalum, positive side to mic (AF)
pin 6 - 5 volts via 560 ohm resistor to mic lead
pin 8 - ground

I only had 1 capacitor, but tested a 2nd identical headset with only the
resistor installed & the VOX reacted normally on that, but obviously the
audio was bad without a cap in line.

The original posting for hooking these up spec'd a .1uF tantalum. I didn't
have one so substituted a 1uF. Could that be keeping the VOX open? Another
list member stated he has successfully used a 1uF, so I'm not sure if
that's the issue or not.

If it's not the mic, suggestions for rig components to check?
