Hi Dennis,
The leads on resistor packs are designed so they will be the appropriate length when inserted in a PCB that is about 1/16 inch
thick. The leads don't have to be trimmed. It's just extra work.
You can trim the leads but since the cut off part is so short, you have to be careful that these bits don't stick to the board. If
something sticks in the flux on the board it might cause a short circuit later.
