[Elecraft] sorry for the non elecraft question

John,
There used to be ships (Ocean Station Vessels) that were stationed near
certain positions in the Atlantic and Pacific to provide communications and
weather info for transoceanic flights.  Technology has rendered them
irrelevant but the call signs for these ships when they were on station was
4Y_.  U S Coast Guard ships manned 4 of these stations in the Atlantic (4YB,
4YC, 4YD and 4YE) and 2 in the Pacific (4YN and 4YV).  I hope this helps a
bit.  You are right, it has/had nothing to do with amateur radio.

if you look on any callsign list you will find that 4ya-4yz are set aside
for the international civil aviation organization.  Obviousely this is not a
country and an internet search brought up their website, but I can find no
relation to amateur radio or anything with them having any callsign.  Anyone
on here know what this is?  This has been buggin me.
