Will your operating sessions be within the limits of the battery?  If 
so, I'd build AA4PB's SLA charger.  It's light, small and RFI free.  
It's also designed to get around the usual problems of using an SLA 
charger while operating.  However, it is current limited at 500 mA to 
protect the battery so your power for transmitting will be drawn from 
the battery.
