Hi
Although I am not usually a big fan of MFJ they do have a few items that =
work very well. The switching power supplies that they sell are very =
quiet and have several features that are useful. The basic un-metered 25 =
amp is good for traveling because it only weighs about 3 lbs and is very =
small (5.5x6x2.5). It has an internal voltage adjustment. The same =
supply is also available in a metered version with a lighted volt and =
amp meter, a cigarette lighter plug and a front panel voltage adjustment =
(5.5x6x4). The part numbers are MFJ-4125 for the un-metered and =
MFJ-4225-MV for the metered. I use the metered PS on my work bench to =
test, repair and align K1's and K2's I have never noticed any noise from =
the supply. I also use the 45 amp MFJ-4245-MV as the main supply for my =
shack and it is just as quiet although a little large for traveling. I =
also have an Astron SS-25-M It is also a quiet supply but the meters are =
not lighted and the adjustment is inside it weighs 4.5 lbs and is larger =
at 7x9.5x2.75

Subject: [Elecraft] Switching PS for travel with K2/100
Hi Again Folk:
Any recommendations or experience with switching
PS for travel use with a K2 (with internal battery)=20
AND with K2/100 top for use where necessary?
I realize these are two very different current supply
scenarios, but if I could find a light/quiet 16-20 amp=20
switcher it might do double duty. However, input
on either situation would be most welcome.
Requirements:
1. As light and small as possible (needs to fit into
Home Depot Aluminum case along with rig etc.)
2. RF quiet. Needs to work with random wire
antennas, MP-1 or Buddipole (possibly indoors!).
3. 120-240volt 50/60Hz universal input.
4. Output voltage adjustable (for proper setting
to float charge K2 internal battery), or must be
at least 14.2 volts (?).
Searching VE3MCF's very useful index to=20
reflector topics yielded an initially promising
discussion of the Phihong PSS-45W-150=20
switcher. However, in the end the consensus
was that it failed on point 2 above.
Any recommendations, warnings, tips or other
help would be very much appreciated.
