Since few have had any environmental problems with tin-lead alloys, my
advice is before the "greenies" take over the sale of solder, go out and buy
up a couple pounds of Multicore to serve you the rest of your life!
It is much the same here with asbestos containing vinyl floor tiles. They
are required to be handled as hazardous waste, but as long as you do not
break them into dust, they are harmless! Now, the expensive contractors
certified to handle them take them up how? By breaking them into tiny
pieces, creating dust and self fulfilling prophecy, when all you REALLY have
to do, is apply a heat gun to soften the glue underneath and they come up in
one harmless tile unit!
- Seems Mr. Alexanderson of the HF alternator fame used to sleep next to his
HF generating alternators and lived well into his 90's.
De Forest and other early inventors using lead solders of much coarser
nature than today's lived into ripe old ages. The hazard of solder in
alloys is much overblown.
