Legislation is being introduced in the UK and Europe about the use of
solder containing lead. In consequence, lead-free solder is on sale
from the various component suppliers. The use and sale of Pb/Sn solder
will be phased out during the next two years. I have used lead-free
solder to build my KDSP2 and it has gone together fine. The lead-free
solder I have used is 99.3% Sn and 0.7% Cu and has a single core of
non-corrosive flux. Although tin has a lower melting point than lead,
the overall melting point appears to be about the same and I have not
changed my iron temperature setting.
I realise that Mr Bush is not as keen on environmental/health issues,
but being a friend of our Mr Blair, he may follow eventually ;-)
