Forgive me if I'm restating something that you already know, Trevor, but
it sounds like you may be new to the procedure.
First you must run CAL PLL and CAL FIL after adjusting C22 before you
will see ANY change.
Normally, it would NOT affect any offset between TX and RX. That is done
automatically in CW mode by the sidetone frequency you choose. You can
hear this frequency by pressing "SPOT".
The sidetone pitch is adjusted in the Normal MENU under St P where the
chosen frequency is displayed in kilohertz. So if it's set to 800 Hz,
you will see St P 0.80 displayed. You can change the sidetone by turning
the Tuning knob while in that menu function.
To put the TX frequency on your RX frequency, the signal must be tuned
in so that it produces and audio beat note that is equal to the sidetone
frequency. One does NOT tune the signal in to it is at "zero beat" where
it is no longer heard. Rather, you punch SPOT to enable the sidetone,
then adjust the tuning until the tone produced by the signal beating
against the BFO is the same as the sidetone. If you adjust the volume to
match the sidetone level, the third "beat" note will be loudest. You can
hear the third "beat" drop to zero when the two tones are exactly
matched. Then the transmit frequency should be identical to the received
station's frequency.
If you don't like the level (loudness) of the Sidetone, you can change
that in the MENU under St L.
The correct setting for C22 is to put the 4 MHz 'clock' oscillator
exactly on 4.000 MHz. While the exact frequency is not critical for
normal K2 operation, putting it exactly on 4.000 MHz will produce the
most accurate frequency readout.
There are several ways to adjust to C22. Procedures are included in the
manual. I zero beat the oscillator with WWV at 20 MHz using an auxiliary
receiver that has a wire placed to pick up some of the 4 Mhz oscillator
signal as well as WWV off the air. Once you have adjusted C22 you must
run CAL PLL and CAL FIL for the change to take effect.
