[Elecraft] KIO2 MixW

I'd been hoping for KY support, too, but in the end I used the transistor
switch on DTS that I'd previously used for PTT line switching, since MixW
can use a CAT command to control TX/RX so it isn't needed for that. The
transistor switch is made up on a tiny bit of perf board and fits inside
the D shell on the back of the computer. It uses the spare white (?) wire
inside the K2 serial cable to get to the K2. A short bit of thin audio
co-ax takes it from the K2's D plug to the key plug on the other side of
the K2 back panel, via a couple of diodes, as per the manual. So there's no
need for an extra wire from the PC to the rig.
The only thing I can't do is plug in an actual key at the same time, but
I'm sure I've seen "Y" adapters to allow two people with headphones to
listen to a Walkman at the same time, which ought to do the job (probably
need two diodes in the key jack plug as well.)
I haven't tried doing anything fancy with MixW macros, though I'm always
happy to use other people's ideas. After most of a lifetime writing
programs and fixing computer problems professionally I find myself
increasingly reluctant to do it in my spare time as well. :-)

Hi EleCrew,
I've been hoping for KY support of CW since I registered MixW
in '01, but I don't think it's coming because it's so easy to make
a dts/rts keyer. It just annoys me to think about running
redundant wires around the shack. Does anybody have any neat
macros for MixW they would share?
I read (here I think) how to send SETs through the <CATCMD:>.
I've got a CW only CQ via KY command thanks to other's posts.
Does anybody know if I can define a log field like <PWR> and
KIO2 "GET" data for it, or are the fields set in stone? I always
logged power when I paper logged and wrote it on QSLs in case the
recipient cared. Seems to me I shouldn't have to give that up
because of supposed progress.
