[Elecraft] S-meter Readings

The "calibration" won't affect anything but perhaps your sanity Crit.

I "calibrated" my S-meter by tuning in what I judged to be an S7 signal
and set the calibration so the meter read S-7. After all I paid for the
K2, so the least it can do is agree with me!

After doing that a few times with various signals I noticed that it did,
indeed, tend to agree with me and left it alone.

I use the K2 with the AGC off most of the time so the "S meter" is
disabled anyway.

So why did I bother with the calibration? Like I said, messing with it
won't affect anything but perhaps your sanity, Crit...

Only recently joined the Elecraft family. Traded for K2 sn 556. I have
reviewed VE3MCF's Reflections from Reflector and quickly cruised thru
the reflector itself. And have not found any comments about what I have
done. Wondering if I am creating any problems. I know the S in RST was
originally subjective and not tied to a specific voltage. But the K2's
S-meter seems to be a bit stingy on its readings compared to my Omni 6.
And with more S units than LED's I fiddled. I adjusted the S-meter via
Cal setting to light the 9th LED for an S9 signal. That spreads out the
S-meter giving me a LED for each S unit and the tenth LED for S9+. I
work 99.9% CW and only indicate the strongest signal as 599 plus. Am I
wrong? 73/Crit/K4BXN
