John,
As far as I have found, there are two alternatives for getting extra
indicators for the K2 without drilling a hole in the front panel:
- Subminiature LED in the rate/lock button as used in the KR5L zero-beat
indicator,
http://home.earthlink.net/~n0ss/kr5l_cw_tuning_ind.pdf. I have seen
others use it as an indicator for PTT also:
http://www.iarc.org/~4z4tl/4z4tl_k2.html.
- Use of the right-most LED in the K2's LED display as used in my
version of the zero-beat indicator,
http://www.qsl.net/la3za/QRP_Zero.html. No choice of colour in this
case, but I chose deliberately to make it less bright than the usual
S-meter indicator.
Maybe there are more ways for extra indicators out there, now that more
than 3000 K2's are in use by inventive hams all over the world?
