[Elecraft] KX1 Check and Double check

Hi

And I will add. Elecraft uses the convention that pin 1 of parts like =
IC's and relays have a round pad and all of the other pads are square. A =
round pad looks just like a feed through and is easy to miss when =
soldering a row of pads. Several times I have missed pin one on an IC, =
relay or connector because your mind is looking for square pads. I now =
always solder the round pin one on these parts first then solder the =
rest of the pins. In addition I always go back over each pin and re-flow =
each one without adding solder after completing the soldering on all of =
the pins. That extra look has found a missed pin on several occasions =
and allows the solder to flow through the plated through hole to the =
other side.

  SNIP

Double and triple checking solder joints with a good magnifier is =
great
insurance, not only for a rig that works right the "first time" but =
also for
one that keeps working for years without sudden failures when you =
least want
  it to happen <G>.
