[Elecraft] KX1 Check and Double check

Actually, I'm quite sure that came to me directly from Wayne along with =
his
notes for the manual. It's one of the "basic" checks put in all the =
manuals.
The only question is how often to keep the builder's eyes from glazing =
over
while emphasizing that EVERY joint deserves a double-check.=20
You are quite right. It's amazing how a lead can be missed. It's also a
LARGE reason for later intermittent operation. Several builders have had =
a
rig work perfectly for months - more than a year in one case that I can
recall - and then it quit or got intermittent. The problem was traced to =
an
unsoldered lead that made mechanical contact and took that long to =
develop a
layer of oxide that opened the circuit.=20
Double and triple checking solder joints with a good magnifier is great
insurance, not only for a rig that works right the "first time" but also =
for
one that keeps working for years without sudden failures when you least =
want
it to happen <G>.

Hi,
=20
I don't know which field tester inserted the last paragraph on page 18. =
This
reminder to check and recheck all the pins, using a magnifier is the =
only
place (so far) where you are really overstating the obvious. I mean, =
what
fool would forget one of the pins? They are in neat little lines and
everything.
=20
So I double checked, and I had missed pin one!
=20
Thanks for fool proof instructions! (Even for an ingenious fool like
me.)
