If you are willing to spend the bux to buy a solder pot only for tinning the
toroid leads, I would suggest you invest in a Hakko 808 de-soldering tool
instead. It will do a great job of tinning the toriod leads easily and you
will have something more useful for general use when you are done.
Unless you have some follow on need for the solder pot - most ham stuff just
doesn't need them - but we do have to desolder things sometimes.
