I felt this way at first, too. After all, anything technical I could
say would be uninformed and would just be discounted. However, on
second thought, I realized that the ARRL has already done the technical
stuff. I just explained that the effect on the Amateur Radio Service
would be disastrous -- and pointed the reader to the ARRL filing in
support of this. I mentioned some of the reasons for having an Amateur
Radio Service, and the industry and personal investment that would be
rendered worthless. I also mentioned that other systems could provide
more bandwidth and security than BPL, and that deployment would set back
development of better solutions.
I think that the technical aspects have been made clear; what we need to
do is get enough numbers so the polictical impact of our opposition is
maximized. I am also going to write to my elected representatives in
Congress and the Senate (and I gave some money to ARRL, too).
