[Elecraft] BPL

Well, I've got two "issues" with the bpl thing. One is the consolidation of services -- the all the eggs in one basket scenario -- I
don't like it and it could compromise national security if it took over. (and what happens with blackouts like we just had?). The
other issue is if the power companies are looking for a new revenue stream, they should diversify -- buy into or merge with existing
communication carriers instead of trying to do it a different way.

One problem that I have not seen discussed is that for the power
distributors to use BPL they will need to put bypass capacitors around each
and every transformer. This is needed as the voltage reducing
(distribution) transformer, the one on the pole near your house or in your
or your neighbors back yard if you have "underground" service, acts as a RF
Choke and shunts out/attenuates the BPL signal. The bypass cap will not
only allow the BPL signal to go around the transformer BUT will also pass on
any/all RFI from bad transformers, insulators, arcing connections, noisy
street lights, industrial equipment, etc.

Just imagine what that is going to do to your RFI problems.
