[Elecraft] Scope recommendations

Recently I picked up a Hewlett-Packard 1740A dual trace 100 MHz analog
scope with manuals, probes, etc., in "new" condition for under $200.
Figure out your spex (I suggest dual trace, a minimum 100 MHz bandwidth
and adjustable delayed sweep as a few good criteria) and start spooking
Hamfests. Take a list of known good mfgrs (like Fluke, Philips, HP...)
and any particular models you want to stay away from for any reason, and
then entertain all the of the rest.
And remember, if someone offers you a deal that is "too good to be true"
it probably is.
I agree with Stuart about analog scopes being great for certain jobs.
They tend to be heavier and bigger than the modern digital jobs, but
they don't tend to add as many artifacts of their own to the trace
either.

Roy,
A fine set of scopes made in the 1980's and often underpriced in ham
swaps
are the Philips of Holland 32xx series, especially the 3260, 3244, 3217,
etc...A 100 MHz scope from Philips with delayed sweep, two channels plus
various inputs for triggering may sell for $125 or less....Nothing beats
an analog scope for certain jobs!
